Change is a complex thing. In the so called VUCA times (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity) employees often feel uncertain and unbalanced. Many are afraid of the future because they fear the potential to loose something in their life, which they might eventually have built up over a long time. This often refers to emotional stability elements in the individuals life.
But the bad news is, if we don’t drive change, we are going to become obsolete with time. So how do we balance being driven by change and actively driving change without forgetting our roots and heritage? Well, from our perspective the answer is clear – be the change and create the heritage of tomorrow – as an evolution, not a revolution. The guideline must be: „the only constant is change.“
The famous scientist John P. Kotter as well as his colleague Elisabeth Kübler-Ross designed a theoretical concept about the development of change in the perception of mankind. The result is the so called „change curve“ which contains the following four steps:
„Not possible“ – if happenings are diametrical to your own wishes you enter the denial stage. If you don’t feel comfortable in the topic, you avoid it.
„If you continue doing it, I’ll destroy it“ – if you cannot avoid the change, you’ll generate resistance to sabotage the change process.
„If I can’t avoid it, I’ll make it my own.“ – the longer the resistance, the more you’ll recognize you can’t stop the constant change.
„If it’s mine, I’m gonna master it“ – After recognizing the potential of change, you’ll generate excitement and feel satisfaction, because your comfort zone grows (through the learning zone)
That whole process finally leads into real intrinsic motivation and is the final achievement for a trainee in a Fluxx Live training and finally in life overall.
Our task in the change process? Taking employees on a learning journey and giving them each the individual time they need. Because everyone has its own pace that can’t be accelerated.
